his elegant rural retreat is set in the idyllic vineyards of Chile’s lesser-visited Rosario Valley. Despite it’s relative proximity to the capital (Santiago’s international airport is just a 50-minute drive away) La Casona feels a world-away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Arriving in the estate gives the feeling of entering an exclusive oasis where you can spot hummingbirds darting in and out of the trees in exquisitely planted gardens.
La Casona’s 10 guest rooms are situated in the restored colonial main house and are furnished in a rustic elegance to reflect that era. Rear doors of the guest rooms open out on to a wraparound terrace which faces gardens brimming with flowers on one side, and the sloping vineyards on the other. The main house also features a welcoming guest lounge with fireplace and pool table, whilst a short stroll through the gardens leads you to El Equilibro restaurant, and in another secluded area, the swimming pool with shaded day-beds and loungers with a back-drop of rolling vines.
Part of the draw of a stay at La Casona is to completely unwind in such a tranquil setting. However there are a number of optional excursions that can be arranged, designed to showcase the picturesque surroundings of the Rosario Valley. A wine tour is essential, to learn about (and of course sample) some of the award-winning wines produced here. La Casona also has a team of expert guides who can lead you on a variety of trails – either on foot, by bike or on horse-back – through some of the most picturesque areas of the 9000 hectare valley.
